.PHT files typically serve two very different purposes: they are either PyTorch Model Weights used in machine learning or server-side scripts written in PHP. When used in machine learning, these files store serialized state dictionaries, neural network parameters, and tensor structures. Internally, modern PyTorch files are formatted as standard ZIP archives.
The main disadvantage of the .PHT format for machine learning is its opacity. It is a proprietary, closed binary format that heavily relies on Python's Pickle serialization. The files frequently exceed gigabytes in size, require a massive Python environment to open, and pose security risks because Pickle files can execute arbitrary code when loaded. For web servers, .PHT files are a notorious security risk; attackers frequently use this extension to bypass weak upload filters that only block standard PHP files, allowing them to upload malicious web shells.
Converting these files is practically impossible for generic online converters because the neural network data is highly specialized. To export a PyTorch model to an interoperable standard like ONNX, you must load the data back into the original Python codebase.
