Convert PFO to another file type
To convert PFO folders to another format, you need Tally ERP 9 or other Data software.
Convert a file to PFO
To convert other file formats to the "Encrypted Container / ERP Report" file type, you need software like Tally ERP 9 or a similar tool.
About PFO files
A .PFO file generally serves one of two distinct purposes: it is either an encrypted private folder container created by Pismo Technic's Private Folder software, or an accounting portfolio and data transfer profile generated by Tally ERP 9. Pismo utilizes the format to mount secure, encrypted virtual file systems on the host operating system. Conversely, Tally uses it to store, bundle, and transfer proprietary financial reporting data between enterprise environments.
The primary disadvantage of the .PFO format is extreme vendor lock-in. Neither variant is natively supported by modern web browsers, standard document viewers, or basic operating system utilities. Attempting to share a Tally report as a .PFO file with a client or colleague who uses Microsoft Excel or Intuit QuickBooks will result in an unreadable file. Similarly, Pismo .PFO containers function as useless black boxes without the specific client software and correct decryption passphrase.
Because of these harsh limitations, users frequently need to extract the data locked inside .PFO files into universally accepted formats. The ideal target formats for Tally ERP data are CSV or XLSX for spreadsheet analysis, or PDF for read-only financial reporting. However, directly converting a .PFO file using a generic online converter is virtually impossible due to the closed, proprietary data structures and aggressive encryption schemes involved. Often, only the original software can properly read, mount, or export the enclosed data.
Despite these challenges, you can just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible using convert.guru. Our engine inspects the binary file headers to instantly differentiate between a Tally database file and a Pismo encrypted container. While full conversion of an encrypted or proprietary binary file typically requires the native application, convert.guru can extract readable embedded metadata, display raw hex strings for debugging, and pull out supported sub-files if the container's structural integrity allows.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PFO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PFO file to BASE64, HEX, BIN, ENC, CRYPT, AES, DES, RSA, PGP, GPG, ASC or KEY, you can use Tally ERP 9 or similar software from the "Secure Storage or Accounting Reports" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert CER, BIN, PEM, DER, KEY, P7S, PFX, ENC, P12, BASE64, P7B or HEX files to PFO, try Tally ERP 9 or another comparable tool in the "Secure Storage or Accounting Reports" category.
The PFO Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PFO converter.
