About PFO files
The .pfo extension represents a compatibility crossroad between personal security and enterprise accounting. Most commonly, this file is an Encrypted Private Folder created by Pismo File Mount, acting as a password-protected virtual drive that hides sensitive data from the operating system. You cannot simply "convert" this file because its header is encrypted; it must be mounted as a drive letter using the original Pismo software to access the contents.
Alternatively, in a business context, a .pfo file serves as a Portfolio or Profile configuration for TallyPrime (formerly Tally.ERP 9). These files contain proprietary settings or report definitions that Microsoft Excel cannot interpret natively. Users often find themselves stuck with these files when migrating systems or attempting to recover old backups. The practical solution is not direct conversion, but rather extraction: mounting the Pismo drive to copy files to a standard ZIP archive, or using Tally's internal export tools to save data as XML, PDF, or XLSX.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PFO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PFO file to BASE64, HEX, BIN, ENC, CRYPT, AES, DES, RSA, PGP, GPG, ASC or KEY, you can use Pismo File Mount or similar software from the "Encrypted Data Container" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert CER, BIN, PEM, DER, KEY, P7S, PFX, ENC, P12, BASE64, P7B or HEX files to PFO, try Pismo File Mount or another comparable tool in the "Encrypted Data Container" category.
The PFO Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PFO converter.
