About PDFIG files

The .pdfig file is a proprietary project file created by PDF Index Generator, a specialized utility developed by PDF Colony. This file stores the working state of a book indexing project, including parsed word lists, excluded terms, page offsets, and formatting rules.

Users often seek to convert .pdfig files to extract the index data to share with colleagues or editors who do not own the software. The primary disadvantage of the .pdfig format is its rigid vendor lock-in. It is highly proprietary, requires a specific paid software installation to open properly, and is completely unsupported by standard web browsers or word processors. Furthermore, the file does not contain the actual PDF document, only the structural metadata pointing to it.

The best conversion targets for a finished index are standard PDF, TXT, or CSV files. However, .pdfig is a closed, proprietary format. Standard online converters fail to process it because they expect a standard document layout rather than a specialized application state file. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PDFIG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XSC, LPI and NRA files.
