About PBMP files

A .pbmp file is a proprietary raster image format found primarily on older Samsung mobile phones. These files serve as the underlying data for the device's "mobile phone photo album," often representing cached thumbnails or specific graphic elements within the gallery structure. While the format is technically similar to the standard Portable Bitmap (.PBM) format, the obscure .pbmp extension prevents it from opening in modern viewers like Microsoft Photos or Apple Preview. Users typically encounter these files when recovering data from old phone backups, only to find their memories locked in an unreadable format. Because these files are often uncompressed or raw bitmaps, they can be inefficient for storage and impossible to share on social media. To make them usable, the best workflow is converting them to JPG for universal viewing or PNG to preserve image quality without artifacts.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PBMP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PAM, X3F and BLP files.
