About PAV files

A .PAV file typically serves one of two distinct, proprietary purposes that make cross-compatibility a headache. The most common variant (approx. 52%) is a Process Automation Viewer file generated by Rockwell Automation software, specifically within the FactoryTalk suite. These files store historical trend data and process logs in a Microsoft Compound format. The biggest obstacle here is the "black box" nature of industrial data; engineers often need to analyze this trend data in Microsoft Excel or share it with management, but the .PAV format is locked to the specific HMI/SCADA environment that created it. Without the original software, extracting the raw numbers is difficult.

The second common type is a Scanner Profile used by PaperStream IP drivers (formerly Fujitsu, now Ricoh). These binary files store complex scanning parameters (resolution, color dropout, thresholding). They are strictly for driver configuration and cannot be "viewed" like an image. Users frequently mistake them for image files or struggle to migrate these settings between different scanner models.

To solve the industrial data lockout, the best target formats are CSV or XLSX for data analysis, enabling you to build charts and pivot tables. For preserving the visual layout of a trend graph for reports, converting to PDF or PNG is ideal. For audio-based .PAV files (from legacy BIAS Peak), converting to standard WAV or MP3 is necessary as the original software is discontinued.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PAV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted JPG, PCP, NIP and HAT files.
