About PAV files

The .PAV file format primarily stores process trend data used in industrial automation environments. These files are typically generated by Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk or the Prosys OPC Client (often referred to as Process Automation Viewer files). Additionally, a smaller percentage of .PAV files function as scanner settings profiles for Fujitsu PaperStream IP software, while a rare legacy variation contains audio data for Peak Audio.

The main disadvantage of the .PAV format is its heavily proprietary nature. The industrial trend data version relies on a Microsoft Compound File Binary structure that is strictly locked to specialized, high-cost automation software. Users cannot natively open these files in web browsers, standard text editors, or spreadsheet applications like Excel. The scanner profile variation is equally restrictive, tied explicitly to Fujitsu hardware drivers.

Because of these limitations, users often need to convert .PAV data into open formats. For process trend data, the ideal target is CSV or XLSX for data analysis. For legacy audio, WAV or MP3 are the standard targets. However, this file format is difficult to open or convert externally. Standard online converters almost always fail to process it because the encoding is closed. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data.

Despite these challenges, you can use convert.guru. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, inspect the file, and show internal text or content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PAV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted JPG, PCP, NIP and HAT files.
