About PAMP files

A .PAMP file is a proprietary album art cache file created by older versions of the Poweramp music player for Android. It stores thumbnail graphics of album covers to be displayed quickly during music playback, reducing CPU and memory load on legacy mobile devices.

Users typically encounter these files when transferring or backing up MP3 collections from older Android devices to a computer. Because .PAMP files are proprietary cache artifacts, they are frustrating to deal with. They clutter your music directories, and native operating systems lack the required codecs to read them. Furthermore, they lack the standard image file headers of a JPG or PNG, meaning standard image viewers like Windows Photos or macOS Preview will simply display an error.

If you want to recover the original album artwork, your best conversion targets are standard JPG or PNG formats. However, this file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because it was never designed for external use outside of the Android app environment. Often, only the original Poweramp software can properly read the cached data.

Because of its closed nature, standard online converters will fail to process it. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded image format within the cache architecture, viewing or extracting the artwork may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PAMP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
