About P3L files

The .P3L file extension typically serves two distinct purposes: a Payment Terminal Application Package used by PAX Technology and Verifone point-of-sale systems, or a 3D Light Preset file used by Adobe Photoshop. Terminal application files contain compiled libraries or configuration data required to operate retail card readers. Photoshop preset files store customized 3D lighting parameters, such as light intensity, color, and angle, which designers apply to 3D models within the software. Both variations of the .P3L format are proprietary and highly specialized. Terminal files are compiled binaries intended only for specific hardware environments, meaning they cannot be opened by standard text editors or web browsers. Photoshop presets require a paid subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud to utilize. You cannot directly convert a terminal package into a standard document format, nor can you easily convert a light preset into a standard 2D image format like JPG or PNG because the file contains settings, not image data. These formats are notoriously difficult to convert because they lack universal standards. Usually, only the original authoring software can properly read or export the embedded data.
