About P3L files

The .p3l extension serves two completely unrelated industries: point-of-sale (POS) hardware and 3D graphic design.

1. Payment Terminal Application (Primary)

In most commercial contexts, a .p3l file is a proprietary application or library package used by PAX Technology (and occasionally Verifone) payment terminals. These are binary system files containing firmware updates, configuration scripts, or encrypted keys required for the terminal to process transactions.

2. Photoshop 3D Light Preset (Legacy)

For designers, a .p3l file is a saved 3D lighting configuration for Adobe Photoshop. It stores light direction, intensity, and color settings to ensure consistent rendering across different 3D objects.

Convert.Guru analyzes your P3L file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted P2L, CDR and DIA files.

The P3L Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our P3L converter.
