The .P2Z file is a Compressed Poser Pose file utilized primarily by Poser, a 3D rendering and animation software owned by Bondware. This file stores specific mathematical data including joint rotations, translation variables, and morph target parameters used to position a 3D figure into a specific stance.
Users encounter significant limits with the .P2Z format. It is proprietary and requires a commercial, paid software license to utilize properly. More importantly, a .P2Z file does not contain any actual 3D geometry or meshes. It is entirely useless unless the user already has the original base 3D model loaded in the software. Because the file is compressed, it cannot be read natively by standard text editors or generic 3D viewers.
The ideal conversion target is the uncompressed PZ2 format, which allows users to read the underlying text and parameter code. To convert the posed character for use in standard game engines or alternative 3D software (like Unity or Blender), the user must apply the pose to a model and export the entire scene as an OBJ, FBX, or DAE file.
