Convert a file to OVE
To convert other file formats to the "Musical Score" file type, you need software like Overture or a similar tool.
About OVE files
A .OVE file usually represents a music score created by Overture (developed by Sonic Scores, formerly GenieSoft). These files contain rich musical notation, including notes, lyrics, dynamics, and MIDI playback data. The primary challenge users face is that .OVE is a proprietary binary format; it cannot be opened by standard PDF readers, web browsers, or other notation software like Sibelius without conversion. Musicians often receive these files and find themselves unable to view the sheet music or listen to the arrangement without purchasing specific software.
For sharing and archiving, the best practice is converting .OVE to PDF (for printing) or MusicXML (for editing in other tools like Finale). For audio purposes, exporting to MIDI or MP3 allows for universal playback.
Alternatively, a .OVE file may be a project file from the open-source Olive Video Editor. In this context, the file is simply XML text that references video clips on your hard drive. A common drawback is users trying to "play" this file like an MP4. It does not contain actual video data. To resolve this, you must open the project in Olive and "Export" the timeline to a standard video format like MP4 or MOV.
Convert.Guru analyzes your OVE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert OVE file to MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WMA, M4A, AIFF, OPUS, ALAC, APE or WV, you can use Overture or similar software from the "Music Notation Score" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MIDI, AAC, TTA, AU, WV, DTS, MID, FLAC, RA, MP3, PCM or WAV files to OVE, try Overture or another comparable tool in the "Music Notation Score" category.
The OVE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OVE converter.
