About OMX files

The .OMX file extension primarily denotes an Open Matrix data file, which is an HDF5 container used by transportation planners to store massive spatial matrices. Alternatively, it can be a proprietary audio file used by OtsAV DJ Software, a machine toolpath project for OMAX waterjet cutters, or an oceanographic data log. Because .OMX files serve completely different industries, standard online converters fail to process them. Open Matrix files require specialized Python or R scripts to parse the multi-dimensional data. OtsAV files are closed media containers that lock audio away from standard players like VLC. OMAX project files contain proprietary CNC machine instructions that cannot be natively viewed in standard CAD software. Converting these files is necessary to break out of vendor lock-in. Open Matrix data is best converted to standard CSV or base HDF5 for general database use, though very large matrices may exceed standard spreadsheet limits. OtsAV audio files must be extracted to MP3 or WAV, while OMAX files should be exported to DXF vectors. Because most of these formats are proprietary or complex binary structures, they are extremely difficult to open or convert. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content.
