About OFBX files
The .OFBX file format is a proprietary data container created by Oxygen Forensic Detective. It stores extracted digital evidence from smartphones, cloud services, and IoT devices, including call logs, messages, application data, and file system structures.
Opening these files requires an active license for Oxygen Forensic Viewer or the full Detective suite. Without this specialized software, the internal directory structure remains inaccessible to standard operating systems.
The primary disadvantage of the .OFBX format is vendor lock-in. It is a closed, proprietary archive. Investigations often require sharing evidence with lawyers or external auditors who do not have expensive software licenses. Additionally, these backups can easily exceed several gigabytes, making them cumbersome to open or transfer.
To make the data readable for non-examiners, forensic experts typically export the .OFBX case data into universal target formats like PDF (for court reports), CSV or XLSX (for timeline analysis), and XML or HTML (for browser-based review). Exporting outside the native software risks losing cryptographic hash verification and relational links between database tables.
Because .OFBX is a highly secure, proprietary backup format, standard online converters fail to process it. Often, only the original Oxygen Forensics software can properly read, decrypt, or export the data. We can inspect the binary headers and view raw text. If our analysis detects unencrypted embedded formats like SQLITE databases or media files, partial viewing or extraction may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your OFBX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The OFBX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OFBX converter.
