About NWDB files

The .NWDB file is a proprietary Neat Database File created by legacy NeatWorks or Neat 5 desktop software. It functions as a local container to store scanned receipts, business cards, documents, and user-entered financial metadata.

The primary disadvantage of the .NWDB format is that it is a closed, undocumented file type tied to discontinued software. The Neat Company retired its desktop applications in favor of a monthly cloud subscription, leaving many users with locked files. You cannot open a .NWDB file in standard web browsers, document viewers, or basic spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel.

Ideally, users need to convert the contents of a .NWDB file into PDF files for the receipt images and CSV or QIF formats for the financial data to use in accounting tools like QuickBooks.

Because this file format is essentially a complex, proprietary database, standard online converters fail to process it. Often, only the original legacy software can properly read or export the structured data. Our analysis tools can inspect the file's internal structure to extract raw text or identify embedded standard image formats, helping you recover some data even without the original program.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NWDB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The NWDB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NWDB converter.
