About NTW files

The .NTW file extension primarily represents a Broadband Network Design file generated by software from Lode Data Corporation, such as Lode Data Design Assistant. Telecommunication engineers use these files to map physical layouts and calculate signal levels for coaxial and fiber-optic networks. A secondary, highly specific use for .NTW files is as a Viral Genome Network file generated by the vConTACT2 bioinformatics tool, which maps clustering of viral sequences.

Both formats are highly proprietary and pose significant challenges. The Lode Data .NTW file requires a specialized, expensive enterprise software license to open. Because the format is completely closed, it is impossible to view the schematics natively in standard web browsers, generic document viewers, or basic CAD applications. Users typically need to convert these files to share network layouts with contractors or city planners who do not own Lode Data software. The vConTACT2 .NTW file is equally obscure, functioning as data output that requires specific command-line bioinformatics environments or network graph visualization tools.

For broadband network designs, the most pragmatic target formats are DWG or DXF for CAD integration, or PDF for simple visual review. Converting to these formats usually strips the proprietary Lode Data RF calculation parameters, preserving only the geometric layout. For viral networks, researchers should target CSV, TXT, or GRAPHML formats to plot the data in standard network analysis software like Cytoscape.

Because .NTW is a closed, proprietary format in both use cases, standard online converters fail to process it. Usually, only the original Lode Data software or the vConTACT2 tool can properly read or export the structured data. However, just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. convert.guru can still inspect the file and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NTW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted EBK, KSS and SAC files.

FAQ

If you want to convert NTW file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Lode Data Design or similar software from the "Broadband Network Mapping" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to NTW, try Lode Data Design or another comparable tool in the "Broadband Network Mapping" category.

The NTW Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NTW converter.
