The .NSB file extension is a highly fragmented format utilized by several entirely unrelated software systems. Its primary applications include compiled binary shaders for the Gamebryo (formerly NetImmerse) game engine, school timetable schedules generated by IST Novaschem (now a Visma product), and configuration backups for BeyondTrust Privileged Remote Access software. In niche communities, it also acts as a Nintendo Switch save backup compressed via zlib, or as a BIM Object Library file in Nemetschek Allplan.
The main disadvantage of the .NSB format is its strict proprietary lock-in. These files are highly specialized and context-dependent. A BeyondTrust backup file is useless outside its native server environment. Novaschem files require specific, paid enterprise software just to view a schedule. Gamebryo shaders are compiled binaries that standard image or 3D software cannot import. Because these files lack a unified standard structure, traditional document and image converters fail to process them.
Ideally, timetable data should be converted to CSV or PDF for accessibility, and backups should be extracted to readable TXT or JSON logs. However, this file format is difficult to open or convert. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format (such as zlib compression), viewing or conversion may still be possible.
