The .nrx file is a document and receipt folder database created by NeatWorks or NeatReceipts software. It stores scanned documents, tax records, and extracted metadata like vendor names, tax totals, and dates.
Historically, these files were managed locally by the Neat desktop application. However, The Neat Company discontinued its local desktop software in favor of a cloud-only subscription model, leaving many users with inaccessible local data.
Relying on the .nrx format is risky because it traps your financial data in a discontinued, proprietary system. The format cannot be natively opened by web browsers, standard image viewers, or spreadsheet software.
