To convert other file formats to the "Game Asset Data File" file type, you need software like Unity or a similar tool.
The .npc file extension is heavily fragmented. Primarily, it functions as a Non-Player Character data file used across multiple video games and game engines, including Unity, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Tibia, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. These files store AI scripts, character statistics, appearance presets, or dialogue trees. A secondary, yet critical, industrial use is for Special Energy Meter data logs, which track power consumption metrics for the Indian Electricity Grid Code and the National Power Corporation.
Both primary applications share a massive disadvantage: they rely on obscure, unstandardized, or proprietary formatting. Game .npc files are usually locked to their specific engine and vary from plain text to unreadable binary. Energy meter .npc files often require outdated, proprietary utility software to parse. Additionally, some .npc files are actually encrypted video lectures or locked PDF files used by the Navin Classes Player, which require active subscriptions to open.
To make this data usable outside of its native environment, conversion is necessary. For game modding and script editing, convert .npc to TXT, JSON, or XML so you can view the code in any text editor. For energy consumption logs, extracting the data to CSV or XLSX is required for analysis in spreadsheet tools.
