About NON files

A .non file is a specific data format used to store Nonogram logic puzzles, popularly known as Hanjie, Picross, Paint by Numbers, or Griddlers. These files do not contain an actual image; rather, they hold the instructions to build one. Inside, you will find the grid dimensions, the specific numerical clues for every row and column, and usually the solution pattern. While efficient for storage, .non files present a significant usability hurdle: they are proprietary data files, not standard images. You cannot view a .non file in Google Chrome, Microsoft Photos, or on your mobile device without installing niche software like QNonograms or utilizing specific web applets like those found on Webpbn. This lock-in makes it difficult to print puzzles for offline solving or share your creations with friends. The most practical workaround is to convert the .non data into a visual format.
