About NON files

A .NON file is a specialized data format used to store Nonogram picture logic puzzles. It contains the mathematical parameters of the puzzle, specifically the grid dimensions and the sequence of row and column numerical clues required to solve it. Some variations also store the completed pixel-art solution.

These files are heavily tied to the webpbn.com (Web Paint-By-Number) puzzle database and community, as well as desktop solving applications like QNonograms. The format was also historically utilized by developer Dr. Steven Simpson for early logic puzzle generators.

The main disadvantage of the .NON format is its extreme lack of compatibility. Because it stores raw numerical logic rather than pixel data, you cannot open it in a standard image viewer or web browser. The file locks the puzzle inside specialized software, making it useless if you just want to print the puzzle and solve it on paper with a pencil.

To share or print these puzzles, users must convert .NON files to accessible formats. Converting the visual grid to PNG or PDF allows for easy printing. Alternatively, developers building custom solver algorithms often need to extract the raw clue data into TXT or CSV formats.

Because this file format is a niche, closed system, standard online converters fail to process it. Just drag and drop your file to convert.guru to identify the format, view its raw text data, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying text or embedded grid format, viewing or extraction of the puzzle data is completely free.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NON file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XPIX files.

The NON Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NON converter.
