Convert NBM to another file type
To convert your NBM file to another format, you need Apache NetBeans or other Plugin software.
Convert a file to NBM
To convert other file formats to the "IDE Extension Package" file type, you need software like Apache NetBeans or a similar tool.
About NBM files
A .nbm file is a software extension designed for the Apache NetBeans Integrated Development Environment (IDE). It acts as a container for plug-ins, packing compiled Java classes (JAR), configuration data (XML), and metadata into a single distributable archive. While efficient for the IDE's internal updater, the format presents significant friction for developers needing to inspect code or verify dependencies outside of NetBeans. Because it is recognized only by the specific IDE instance it targets, you cannot simply double-click to view its contents or read the manifest in a text editor.
To overcome these limitations without launching the heavy NetBeans application, the most pragmatic workflow is converting the .nbm to a ZIP archive. Since .nbm files use standard compression, renaming the extension allows you to extract the internal netbeans/ folder using standard tools like 7-Zip or macOS Archive Utility. Once extracted, you can access the core JAR files for decompilation or reuse, and view the Info.xml to audit permission requests and dependencies.
Convert.Guru analyzes your NBM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert NBM file to DLL, SO, DYLIB, BUNDLE, PLUGIN, XPI, CRX, SAFARIEXTZ, APPEX, KEXT, SYS or DRV, you can use Apache NetBeans or similar software from the "NetBeans IDE Plugin" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert LV2, DYLIB, VST, AAX, DRV, TDE, LADSPA, BUNDLE, AU, DLL, RTAS or SO files to NBM, try Apache NetBeans or another comparable tool in the "NetBeans IDE Plugin" category.
The NBM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NBM converter.
