To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary Archive" file type, you need software like Evertz MAGNUM or a similar tool.
About MZF files
The .mzf file extension is primarily a System Backup Archive generated by high-end specialized software. The two most dominant uses are for Evertz MAGNUM (a broadcast orchestration system) and Medmont Studio (ophthalmic imaging software).
For Evertz MAGNUM users, the MZF file is a critical system snapshot used for disaster recovery. The difficulty: These files appear as proprietary "black boxes" that standard unzipping tools like WinRAR or Windows Explorer refuse to recognize by default. However, under the hood, these are often standard GZIP archives. Users typically need to convert or extract these to audit configuration logs (SQL dumps, XML settings) without performing a full system restore.
For Medmont Studio users, the MZF file serves as a patient data backup or transport container. These files often lock valuable corneal topography maps and patient history inside a format that Adobe Acrobat or web browsers cannot open. Users frequently need to convert these records to PDF for emailing to specialists or JPG for presentations.
Recommendation:
For Evertz Files: Since the internal format is GZIP, the pragmatic workaround is to rename the extension from .mzf to .gz or zip. This often allows tools like 7-Zip to extract the contents for viewing.
For Medmont Files: Use the "Export" function within Medmont Studio to save data as PDF or Standard Image formats. Third-party conversion is rarely successful due to patient privacy encryption.

The MZF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MZF converter.
