About MVF files

The .mvf extension is a classic example of file format collision, serving four distinct and incompatible purposes. Most commonly, it represents a Traffic Light Controller Log, generated by IVERA traffic systems to record signal timing and sensor data. These files are typically proprietary text or binary streams, making them impossible to read in standard editors like Notepad or analyze in Excel without conversion. Users frequently encounter these when auditing traffic patterns or diagnosing signal hardware, only to find the data locked behind specific vendor tools.

Alternatively, an .mvf file may be a Minesweeper Video File, used by software like Minesweeper Clone to record gameplay. The friction here is significant: despite the name, this is not a video file (like MP4 or AVI) containing pixel data. Instead, it stores a coordinate-based script of mouse clicks and timing. You cannot play this in VLC Media Player or upload it to YouTube directly.

Less frequently, .mvf files are legacy Vector Map data associated with Ordnance Survey or MapView software, or diagnostic logs for LG Electronics HVAC systems via LGMV software.

The MVF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MVF converter.
