About MVE files
The .MVE file extension primarily represents an Interplay MVE Video File, a proprietary full-motion video (FMV) format developed by Interplay Productions. These files were heavily used in classic 1990s PC games like Fallout, Descent, and Baldur's Gate (developed by BioWare) to play cutscenes and cinematic sequences. Secondary uses include Maptek Vulcan 3D geological modeling project files (which are actually ZIP archives internally) and legacy Muvee AutoProducer video project files (based on the Microsoft Compound format). Opening an .MVE video file today is highly problematic. The format is obsolete, completely unsupported by modern web browsers, mobile devices, and standard media players like Windows Media Player. You cannot edit these files in standard non-linear editors like Adobe Premiere Pro. If you are dealing with a Maptek Vulcan or Muvee project file, you are locked into their expensive or discontinued ecosystem, making sharing difficult. For modern playback, web use, and editing, you must convert .MVE to MP4 (H.264) for maximum compatibility, or MKV for archiving. Drag and drop your file to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software. convert.guru will determine the exact type of your .MVE file and provide the best extraction or conversion paths available.

The MVE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MVE converter.
