About MV_ files

An .mv_ file is an automatic backup created by MAGIX video editing software, specifically MAGIX Video deluxe and MAGIX Movie Studio (formerly Movie Edit Pro). These files serve as a safety net, generated periodically while you edit to prevent data loss in the event of a software crash or corruption of the primary MVD project file.

Because .mv_ files are proprietary project containers - not playable media - users often struggle when trying to open them. They do not contain actual video or audio footage; instead, they store references to media files on your hard drive, along with edit decisions, effects, and transitions formatted in a RIFF structure. Consequently, you cannot double-click to watch them in players like VLC, nor can you upload them to YouTube. To "convert" an .mv_ file for viewing, you typically must first restore it by renaming the extension to MVD (or the specific version's extension) and opening it in the original MAGIX software. Once the project is restored, you can use the software's export function to render the timeline into standard distribution formats like MP4 for web use, MOV for high-quality editing, or AVI for archiving.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MV_ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted MVY, MEPX, HDP and MEP files.
