About MOX files
The .mox extension is a distinct example of "filename collision," where one extension serves three completely unrelated, high-value industries: insurance estimation, industrial simulation, and gaming.
Most frequently, a .mox file is a Document Macro used by Xactimate, the industry-standard software for property claims estimation. These files contain automated scripts or templates designed to speed up data entry for adjusters. The primary problem here is proprietary lock-in: these macros are strictly internal to the Xactimate ecosystem. You cannot simply "convert" the macro logic into a DOCX or PDF; you must import it into Xactimate and run it to generate a printable report. However, since many modern application files are actually renamed archives, advanced users sometimes rename the extension to ZIP to inspect internal XML assets, though this does not guarantee usability.
In the engineering sector, .mox files act as simulation models for AnyLogic or ModL libraries for ExtendSim. These contain complex mathematical logic and process flows. The goal here is rarely to convert the model itself, but rather to extract the data. Users should open the file in the native simulation environment to export statistics to XLSX (Excel) or CSV for analysis.
Lastly, modders of the game Emergency 4 encounter .mox as a proprietary 3D Model format. These require specialized community tools to convert geometry into standard formats like OBJ or FBX for editing in Blender.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MOX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted ESX, SKX and CHX files.
The MOX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MOX converter.
