Convert MOF to another file type
To convert MOF format files to another format, you need Autodesk Revit or other Settings software.
Convert a file to MOF
To convert other file formats to the "Material or System Configuration" file type, you need software like Autodesk Revit or a similar tool.
About MOF files
The .MOF extension is primarily associated with two distinct formats: the Revit Material Override File used by Autodesk Revit, and the Managed Object Format file developed by the Desktop Management Task Force (DMTF) for Microsoft Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). In Revit, a .MOF file stores material rendering settings and is saved as a proprietary Microsoft Compound document. In the WMI ecosystem, .MOF files are plain text or UTF-16 encoded scripts containing class and instance definitions used by tools like SCCM and mofcomp.exe. Revit .MOF files are highly proprietary. They require expensive, specialized CAD software to open or edit. You cannot preview them natively in web browsers or standard operating systems. Similarly, WMI .MOF files, while technically text-based, contain complex system configurations that are useless outside of Windows enterprise management environments. Converting a WMI .MOF file to TXT or XML is straightforward since it is already text-based. However, converting a Revit Material Override File is exceptionally difficult without the original software, as the material definitions are locked in a closed ecosystem. Standard online converters fail to parse Revit's proprietary data structure. Because these files are either complex system scripts or closed proprietary 3D data, standard conversion tools usually fail. If our analysis detects an underlying text script or embedded resources, viewing or extraction may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MOF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MOF file to CSV, MP4, INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML or ENV, you can use Autodesk Revit or similar software from the "Material Data or System Config" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to MOF, try Autodesk Revit or another comparable tool in the "Material Data or System Config" category.
The MOF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MOF converter.
