About MNO files
A .MNO file is an XML-based metadata container generated by Adobe Dreamweaver and formerly Macromedia Fireworks. These files are automatically created to store "Design Notes" - project management data such as file status, dates, and the path to original source files (e.g., a PNG source for a web-optimized JPG). They are almost always located inside a hidden _notes subdirectory within your web project.
The primary difficulty for users is directory clutter. Because Adobe Dreamweaver generates a .MNO file for every single asset it manages, file servers often become bloated with thousands of these tiny text files. Furthermore, while they are standard XML, they do not open automatically in standard text editors on double-click, leading to confusion about their contents. They are not intended for final web publication and can expose internal server paths if accidentally uploaded to a live website.
For most users, the goal is to view the metadata or convert it to a universal format for archiving. To read the contents without launching heavy web authoring tools, convert .MNO to TXT or standard XML. If you are migrating data to a different system, converting to JSON allows for easier parsing of the contained metadata.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MNO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted DWT, STE, COMPRESSION and MN files.
The MNO Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MNO converter.
