About MMX files
The .mmx extension is a classic example of a filename conflict, serving three distinct ecosystems with zero interoperability.
1. Oracle Forms Compiled Menu Module (Most Common): If you work in enterprise database environments, your .mmx file is likely a binary, compiled menu file generated by Oracle Forms. Developers create the menu layout in a source MMB file and compile it into an .mmx for deployment.
The Friction: These are strictly "run-time" files. You cannot open an .mmx file to edit the menu structure directly; you must locate the original MMB source file and open it in the Oracle Forms Builder. If you have lost the source, reverse-engineering the binary .mmx is notoriously difficult and often requires specialized hex editing or legacy third-party decompilers.
2. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 Map: For gamers, an .mmx file acts as a container for multiplayer maps and game mods for Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 by Electronic Arts. These act similarly to ZIP archives but are recognized specifically by the game engine.
The Friction: Users often struggle to "open" these because they aren't meant to be viewed. They must be placed directly into the game's installation directory to function. Converting them usually involves using modding tools like the XCC Mixer to extract assets to PCX (images) or WAV (audio).
3. MindMapX/XMind Archive: A smaller subset of files are compressed mind maps created by software like MindMapX. These are often renamed ZIP files containing XML data.
Conversion Advice:
For Oracle: There is no standard conversion to DOCX or PDF. The workflow is to locate the MMB, open it in Oracle Forms, and print the documentation to PDF.
For Mind Maps: Rename the extension to ZIP to inspect contents, or use the original software to export to PNG or PDF for sharing.

The MMX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MMX converter.
