About MMX files

The .MMX file extension is shared by three entirely different systems: Oracle Forms, the game Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, and the MindMapX application. The most common use is as a compiled menu module created by Oracle Forms Developer. In this context, it stores the executable user interface menus for Oracle database applications. The primary disadvantage of an Oracle .MMX file is that it is a proprietary, compiled binary. It is not human-readable and cannot be edited directly. To make changes, developers must locate the original .MMB (Menu Module Builder) source file, edit it, and recompile. Another major use is as a multiplayer map pack for Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, developed by Westwood Studios. These files bundle custom terrain, units, and triggers for multiplayer matches. Like Oracle files, these are highly specific game assets that require the game engine or community map editors to open. Finally, a small percentage of .MMX files are mind maps created by the MindMapX iOS app. These files are essentially renamed ZIP archives containing XML data and images.
