The .mil file is primarily a CALS (Computer-Aided Acquisition and Logistics Support) raster technical drawing. Developed by the US Department of Defense under the MIL-R-28002A standard, these files store black-and-white (1-bit) document images, typically compressed using CCITT Group 4 algorithms. In other engineering contexts, a .mil file can function as a Gerber RS-274X Control File used in PCB manufacturing by Ucamco, or a measurement layout generated by Siemens PADS.
