About MGS files
The .mgs file is a proprietary vector graphics format created by MGCSoft. It primarily stores scalable vector shapes, nodes, and path data used in scientific illustration and equation editing software. The biggest disadvantage of the .mgs format is its severe vendor lock-in. It is a closed, proprietary file type that requires specific, often paid software to open. Standard professional vector editors like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape cannot read these files natively. This makes sharing diagrams with clients or colleagues impossible unless they also purchase and install the exact same MGCSoft application. To ensure long-term accessibility, users need to convert these files to open vector standards like SVG or EPS, or a universally readable PDF document. If infinite scaling is no longer required, raster formats like PNG or JPG are excellent, highly compatible alternatives. Because this is a closed, undocumented format, standard online converters usually fail to process it. Often only the original software can properly read or export the complex geometric data. We inspect the file structure to show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MGS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MGS file to MLS, SVG, AI, EPS, PDF, JPG, CDR, WMF, EMF, SWF, FLA or XFL, you can use MGCSoft or similar software from the "Vector Graphics Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert AFPUB, EPS, FIG, VSD, SKETCH, VDX, AFPHOTO, PDF, AFDESIGN, SVG, VSDX or AI files to MGS, try MGCSoft or another comparable tool in the "Vector Graphics Storage" category.
The MGS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MGS converter.
