Convert MGK to another file type
To convert MGK configuration files to another format, you need ImageMagick or other Settings software.
Convert a file to MGK
To convert other file formats to the "Software Configuration File" file type, you need software like ImageMagick or a similar tool.
About MGK files
The .MGK file is an ImageMagick Configuration File. It is used to store settings, color aliases, font mappings, and processing directives for the command-line image processing tool ImageMagick. You can learn more about the software on its Wikipedia page. These files are typically stored in an XML-based plain text format. The primary disadvantage of the .MGK format is user confusion. Because it is associated with image software, users frequently mistake it for an image file. It contains zero image data, meaning you cannot view it in an image viewer or convert it to standard image formats.
If you need to share or read these settings outside of the software environment, the best target formats are TXT or XML. Converting or renaming the file to these standard text formats makes it easier to share code snippets or edit the file in generic text editors without losing any data. However, be aware that the original software requires the .MGK extension to function properly.
Standard online image converters will fail to process this file because they are looking for pixel data, not XML tags. This is a highly specific, proprietary configuration format. Our analysis tools detect the underlying XML text structure, allowing you to safely inspect the configuration code and extract the text.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MGK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MGK file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use ImageMagick or similar software from the "Image Processing Software Configuration" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to MGK, try ImageMagick or another comparable tool in the "Image Processing Software Configuration" category.
The MGK Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MGK converter.
