About MBT files

The .MBT file format is heavily fragmented and used across entirely different industries. Its most common uses include video editing project files for Pixela ImageMixer, movie production budget files for Movie Magic Budgeting, and mobile map tileset databases for GPS applications like OruxMaps or MyTrails. It is also occasionally used as Modbus device template files for Obvius AcquiSuite or merit badge templates in scout management software.

Because this extension is shared across multiple proprietary systems, handling it is frustrating. As a Pixela ImageMixer project, the file contains no actual video data - only XML-like instructions and file paths on your local drive. If you try to convert it directly to an MP4 or MOV, it will fail because the media is missing. Similarly, Movie Magic Budgeting files require an expensive paid subscription to access, locking your financial data behind a closed ecosystem. Map tilesets are compressed SQLite databases, meaning standard image viewers cannot read them.

When trying to share these files, you must use the original software. Export Pixela projects to MP4 directly within the application. For Movie Magic Budgeting, insist the sender exports a PDF or CSV copy for easy viewing. For map tiles, extracting the internal SQLite tables to PNG or .GeoTIFF is the standard workaround.

These proprietary formats are difficult to open or convert online because their structures are closed or deeply reference local external files. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to identify the format, view its raw contents, and convert it when possible. Our platform can safely inspect the header, determine if it is an SQLite database or a text-based project, and reveal underlying text or embedded data for partial recovery.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MBT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted MBTILES, MHT, NBT, DWZ, CMK and FRAMELETS files.
