About MAZ files
The .MAZ file extension is primarily associated with Mazatrol, a proprietary conversational programming language developed by Mazak Corporation for their multi-axis CNC machines. Unlike standard G-code (EIA/ISO), which defines tool paths coordinate-by-coordinate, .MAZ files use a dialog-based format that streamlines programming at the machine controller. While efficient for operators, this proprietary format creates significant friction for interoperability; .MAZ files are not natively readable by non-Mazak machines or standard text editors, and they often exist as binary data that requires specific viewing software or expensive CAM solutions like Mastercam or CIMCO Edit to interpret. Users frequently need to convert these files to PDF for shop floor documentation, TXT for code review, or translate them into standard G-code using a post-processor for use on different machine brands.
A secondary, legacy use case involves the Windows 95 game Microsoft Hover!, where .MAZ files function as binary level data containing maze layouts. These are strictly for game runtime and are generally incompatible with modern editing tools unless you are using specialized retro-modding utilities.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MAZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MAZ file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Mastercam or similar software from the "CNC Machine Programming" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to MAZ, try Mastercam or another comparable tool in the "CNC Machine Programming" category.
The MAZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MAZ converter.
