About MAR files

The .MAR file extension primarily denotes an application component archive. Most commonly, it functions as a Middleware Archive used by enterprise platforms such as Oracle Fusion Middleware and TorchServe to package deployment logic. Alternatively, it serves as a Mozilla Archive, a proprietary format deployed by the Mozilla Foundation for delivering seamless background updates to browsers like Firefox. The primary disadvantage of a .MAR file is its lack of native desktop support. Operating systems cannot open them natively, and double-clicking results in an error. They act as black boxes, obscuring the XML, JSON, or compiled binaries inside. Attempting to deploy a proprietary .MAR file outside its intended server environment is impossible without specialized software. To work with the raw data, you must extract it. The best conversion target for inspecting the payload is a standard ZIP or TAR archive.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MAR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted MARKDOWN, MARTIAN, ZIP, LDB, ADP and JET files.

The MAR Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MAR converter.
