About M_P files
A .m_p file is a text-based engineering report generated by computer-aided design (CAD) software, most notably PTC Creo (formerly Pro/ENGINEER) and occasionally SOLIDWORKS. These files act as a specific output log containing the calculated mass properties of a 3D model or assembly - such as volume, surface area, mass, center of gravity, and inertia tensors.
The real problem with .m_p files is their obscurity outside the engineering department. Because the extension is non-standard for general computing, Windows and macOS often fail to associate it with a default application, leaving users staring at an "Open With" dialog. Furthermore, while the data is valuable for documentation, the raw text format is messy and difficult to present in formal meetings or include in technical packages without formatting.
To bridge this gap, engineers typically convert .m_p files to PDF for unalterable, professional archiving and sharing with non-technical stakeholders. For data analysis or cost estimation, converting the report to XLSX (Excel) or CSV is ideal, allowing the mass and volume figures to be directly utilized in calculations. For quick viewing without specialized software, simply converting it to a standard TXT file renders it readable by any text editor.
Convert.Guru analyzes your M_P file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert M_P file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use PTC Creo or similar software from the "CAD Analysis Report" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to M_P, try PTC Creo or another comparable tool in the "CAD Analysis Report" category.
The M_P Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our M_P converter.
