About LVIX files

An .LVIX file is a proprietary index file generated by Lightworks, a professional non-linear video editing system (NLE) used for films like The Wolf of Wall Street. These files are automatically created when you import video footage (such as MP4, MOV, or MTS) into a project to speed up seeking and playback performance. A common source of confusion is that .LVIX files often appear in the same directory as your source media with a compound extension (e.g., video.mp4.lvix), leading users to mistake them for the actual video recording. However, .LVIX files contain no visual or audio data - only timecode and metadata - and typically weigh only a few kilobytes. As a result, they cannot be opened or played in standard media players like VLC Media Player or Windows Media Player, which will report them as corrupt or unrecognizable. You cannot convert an .LVIX file directly into a viewable image or video because the content simply isn't there. If you need a playable file, you must locate the original source video (usually adjacent to the .lvix file) or open the project in Lightworks and export the sequence to a standard format like H.264 (MP4).
