About LRS files
The .LRS file extension most commonly represents a Low Resolution Stream video file created by dashcams manufactured by YI Technology. These files are generated alongside a high-resolution version of the same dashcam footage to allow for faster streaming and previewing on mobile devices via the companion app. Under the hood, an .LRS file is simply an MP4 video container carrying H.264 video data. Other notable, though less common, uses of the .LRS extension include encrypted files locked by the Lexar ransomware, data files for the Lexar Recovery Software, and German social security reporting data files managed by Lohn-Ausweisungs-Service GmbH (LASG). The main disadvantage of the .LRS dashcam format is that standard operating systems and web browsers do not natively recognize the extension. Double-clicking the file usually results in an 'unrecognized format' error. While you can sometimes force it to open in media players like VLC media player or simply rename the extension to MP4, these workarounds are tedious and can cause metadata issues in video editing workflows.
