The .LRCAT-DATA file is a proprietary support structure used by Adobe Lightroom Classic. Introduced in version 11, it stores computationally heavy assets like AI masks (subject and sky selections), specific color profiles, and advanced editing metadata. It must reside in the exact same folder as the primary LRCAT catalog database to function correctly. This format is entirely closed and proprietary, creating immense challenges if you attempt to manage files outside of the Adobe ecosystem. The main disadvantage is that it requires a paid Adobe subscription to access and is completely useless on its own.
