Convert a file to LQ

To convert other file formats to the "CNC/Laser Project" file type, you need software like Makeblock Laserbox or a similar tool.

About LQ files

The .lq file extension is primarily associated with Makeblock Laserbox, a specialized laser cutter software suite. These project files act as a container (internally using GZIP compression) to store vector graphics, raster images, and specific machine settings (power, speed, material thickness) required for the Laserbox hardware.

Users frequently face difficulties because .lq files are proprietary to the Makeblock ecosystem. If you switch to more advanced laser control software like LightBurn or hardware from xTool, you cannot directly open these files. Conversely, designers using Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape must export designs as SVG or DXF before importing them into Laserbox to generate the final .lq file.

For Editing and Web use, the best conversion target is SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics), which preserves the vector paths and can be opened in any browser or design tool. For CAD or industrial workflows, convert to DXF. In rare legacy cases, .lq may refer to an LZH compressed archive or a specific insurance data file from Liberty Group, but these are statistically uncommon.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LQ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted HP, FH10 and CURVE files.

The LQ Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LQ converter.
