About LPG files

The .LPG file is a proprietary organ sequencer data file created by the Lowry Organ Company (often spelled Lowrey). It stores musical performance data, including note sequences, rhythm selections, and organ stop settings. Users typically encounter these files on USB drives or floppy disks formatted specifically for Lowry digital organs. The primary disadvantage of the .LPG format is its extreme hardware dependency. It is a closed, proprietary format that cannot be opened natively by standard media players or digital audio workstations on Windows or macOS. Because of this lock-in, users often need to convert .LPG to universal audio formats like MP3 or WAV for listening, or to MID (MIDI) for editing and sheet music generation. This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because it lacks public documentation and uses proprietary System Exclusive (SysEx) commands tailored to specific hardware. Standard online converters fail to process it, and often only the original hardware organ can properly read or export the data.
