About LOT files

A .LOT file is primarily an auxiliary text document generated by the LaTeX typesetting system. It stores the 'List of Tables' data extracted from a master TEX document. Whenever a user inserts tables with captions, the LaTeX engine writes this metadata into the .LOT file to build a formatted directory in the final output. Other less common formats using this extension include binary log files from Bridgeport EZ-TRAK CNC machines and sprite animation object data for the game Little Fighter 2.

The main disadvantage of the LaTeX .LOT format is its raw markup structure. It contains low-level TeX commands rather than human-readable formatted text. If you send a .LOT file to a client, they will see confusing code instead of a clean table index. Furthermore, manually editing this file is useless because the LaTeX compiler overwrites it during every compilation cycle. For non-technical users, attempting to open CNC machine logs or game data files using standard text editors results in scrambled text or system errors because these are closed, proprietary binary formats.

To solve these issues, you must convert the file. For LaTeX users, compiling the main document naturally outputs a clean PDF. If you need to extract the raw table list for external use, converting the text-based .LOT to TXT or DOCX is recommended, though you will lose the TeX formatting. Standard online converters often fail to process this extension because they misidentify it or cannot handle the binary CNC and game variations. Our system inspects the internal structure to determine whether it is plain text LaTeX or a proprietary binary, offering the correct conversion paths automatically.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LOT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DVI, CLS and DTX files.
