A .LOL file is most commonly a game data archive used by League of Legends. These files store compressed game assets like character models, skins, and audio files. Another famous use case is for source code written in LOLCODE, an esoteric programming language based on internet slang. Occasionally, the .LOL extension also appears as static meshes in the Lineage II game or as compiled Lua scripts in the Saints Row game series.
Users typically encounter these files when digging into game directories to install mods or extract game assets. The primary disadvantage of game-specific .LOL files is their proprietary nature. They are often locked or heavily compressed to prevent cheating and tampering. Since the League of Legends variant is internally based on the ZIP format, converting or renaming it to ZIP is the most common target to extract the internal contents. For LOLCODE scripts, converting to standard TXT is the best path.
