Extract text from Likee and LiveJournal caches (LJ)

The .LJ file extension primarily acts as an image container for Likee JPEG image files and LiveJournal image files. Social media platforms like Likee and LiveJournal use this custom extension to cache images locally on a user's smartphone or computer. Internally, these files are standard JPG or PNG images that have been renamed. A smaller subset of .LJ files are HP LaserJet printer data files, which contain raw PCL (Printer Command Language) instructions designed to be sent directly to HP printers.
The main disadvantage of the .LJ format is its lack of native operating system support. Because the extension is non-standard, default image viewers like Windows Photos or Apple Preview will fail to open it. Operating systems rely on extensions to identify files, so a renamed image becomes effectively unreadable to the average user. If the file is an HP printer command file, it contains raw machine code rather than visual data, making it useless outside of direct printing workflows without specialized software.
To view the image content, you must convert .LJ files to standard formats like JPG or PNG. Manually renaming the extension sometimes works for image caches, but it can lead to file corruption if the actual internal format does not match the new extension. If you have an HP PCL file, converting the raw printer data to a PDF is the only way to preview the printed output on a screen.
