Extract text from LJ files

The .lj extension is an ambiguous file marker used primarily in two wildly different contexts: cached social media assets and legacy printer instructions.
Most modern users encounter .lj files as cached images generated by the Likee short-video platform or the LiveJournal blogging network. In this context, the file is typically just a standard JPG or PNG bitmap that has been saved with a non-standard extension to prevent external indexing or accidental modification. The friction here is straightforward: your operating system does not recognize the extension, so double-clicking yields an "Open With" error, even though the underlying data is a perfectly valid image. Users need to convert - or simply identify and rename - these files to JPG for universal compatibility with software like Adobe Photoshop or standard web browsers.
Alternatively, an .lj file may be a HP LaserJet print file containing PCL (Printer Command Language) data. These are binary streams meant directly for HP hardware, not human eyes. Opening them in a text editor reveals gibberish. For these files, the only practical workflow for viewing or archiving is converting the PCL data into a PDF. This preserves the document layout and text without wasting paper or requiring an outdated printer driver.
