A .ldc file primarily stores linear drive motion curve data for LinMot Designer (often integrated with TwinCAT 3) or structural analysis stiffness parameters for LiraCAD. A third, less common use is as a Laser Design Cutting file in the LDraw ecosystem.
The main disadvantage of the .ldc format is its highly specialized, proprietary nature. These files are not supported by standard web browsers, generic CAD tools, or spreadsheet applications. You cannot easily share an .ldc file with a colleague or client who does not have an active, expensive license for the specific industrial or structural engineering software required to parse it.
Users typically need to convert .ldc files to universal data formats like CSV or XML to analyze motion curves in Microsoft Excel, or to DXF and STEP for structural and laser cutting data. Be aware that converting to these generic formats usually strips away proprietary physics metadata, leaving only raw geometric or positional coordinates.
