About LCO files

An .LCO file is primarily a Letter Class Option file used by the KOMA-Script bundle within the LaTeX typesetting system. These files act as modular configuration containers for the scrlttr2 letter class, storing reusable variables such as sender addresses, bank details, logo paths, and specific page layout definitions (e.g., DIN 676 compliance).

Users often struggle with .LCO files because they are not standalone documents. You cannot double-click an .LCO to see a formatted letter; it is merely a dependency that must be called by a primary TEX file during compilation. Users without a TeX distribution (like TeX Live or MiKTeX) will find them unreadable, appearing as raw source code in standard editors. A secondary, less common use case involves legacy locomotive files for Microsoft Train Simulator or Trainz, which are proprietary binary or text definitions incompatible with document tools.

To make this file useful, the best target format is Plain Text (.TXT) for editing the configuration source, or PDF if you wrap the file in a minimal LaTeX driver to visualize the layout. For archiving or sharing the settings without requiring technical know-how, converting the raw code to PDF via a LaTeX compiler is the standard workflow.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LCO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted GSE, III and DPT files.
