About LA files
A .LA file most commonly functions as a GNU Libtool archive text file used in Unix-like systems, a discontinued Samsung Soundcamp music project, or an Energy Accounting Report for specialized meter systems. It is also historically linked to the highly obscure La Lossless Audio codec.
Opening a .la file natively presents serious challenges due to format fragmentation. Samsung Soundcamp was officially discontinued in 2018, rendering older music projects obsolete and unopenable without legacy Android hardware. GNU Libtool files are plain text scripts that map static and dynamic libraries; attempting to modify them manually often triggers catastrophic dependency loops during software compilation. Furthermore, standard media players like VLC will actively reject legacy La Lossless Audio files because the codec is practically extinct.
To make these files usable today, conversion is mandatory. For audio extraction from abandoned music projects, convert to WAV or MP3. For lossless audio archival, convert to FLAC. For viewing Libtool code or Energy Accounting data, standardizing to TXT or CSV is best. Drop your file here to view and convert it securely right in your browser.

The LA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LA converter.
