About KVTML files

The .KVTML format is an XML-based file used to store vocabulary data, flashcards, and language tests. It is the default format for the KDE Education Project. These files are typically generated and opened by Linux-based educational software like KWordQuiz, Parley, and Kanagram. The main disadvantage of .KVTML is its severe lack of portability. The format is practically unusable outside the KDE ecosystem. If you switch to Windows, macOS, or iOS, or if you try to import your decks into mainstream tools like Anki or Quizlet, the file will be rejected. Attempting to open it in a basic text editor reveals a messy structure of XML tags that are frustrating to read. To make this data useful on other platforms, you must convert it to a universal format like CSV (for spreadsheet editors) or TXT (for flashcard imports). Keep in mind that specific application metadata, like spaced repetition scores, will be lost during conversion. This format is notoriously difficult for generic converters to handle because they cannot reliably parse the specific KDE XML schema to extract just the vocabulary pairs.

Convert.Guru analyzes your KVTML file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The KVTML Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KVTML converter.
