About KTR files

The .KTR file extension primarily represents a Kettle Transformation file used by Pentaho Data Integration (now managed by Hitachi Vantara). These are XML based files that define data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) workflows. A secondary but notable use is as a VPN configuration file for the KPN Tunnel Revolution Android application. Pentaho .KTR files are notoriously heavy and tightly coupled to the Pentaho ecosystem. They require a bulky Java environment to run and often contain proprietary logic that makes them extremely difficult to migrate to modern ETL competitors like Talend or Informatica.
