Developed by David Korn, KornShell is a command-line interface and scripting language that is backward-compatible with the Bourne shell (.SH). These files contain executable plain text commands used for system administration and automation. A secondary use for the .KSH extension is as a rhythm game chart file for K-Shoot MANIA, a popular Sound Voltex simulator. In this context, the file is encoded in UTF-8 and contains timing, notes, and visual effects data. The primary disadvantage of a .KSH KornShell script is a severe lack of cross-platform compatibility. You cannot execute these scripts natively on Windows without a compatibility layer like Cygwin or the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).
