About KPZ files
A .KPZ file is a Komodo Template File developed by ActiveState. It serves as a compressed project package for the Komodo IDE, a popular integrated development environment for languages like Python, PHP, and Ruby. These files contain a starting pattern for building specific software applications, usually bundling a KPF project configuration file along with necessary source code and scripts.
Because ActiveState has discontinued Komodo IDE, users frequently struggle to open .KPZ files. This format is proprietary to the Komodo ecosystem, meaning standard web browsers and regular text editors cannot read it directly. If you find an old .KPZ file, it essentially locks your code templates behind a niche, unsupported format. Standard online converters completely fail to process it because they do not recognize the specialized archive structure.
To recover the data, the best target format is a standard archive like ZIP. From there, you can access the raw TXT, XML, or source code files inside. Our system can inspect the underlying structure of the .KPZ file. If we detect standard compression, we can help you extract the contents or convert it to a modern format, saving you the hassle of hunting down obsolete IDE installers.
Convert.Guru analyzes your KPZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert KPZ file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use ActiveState Komodo IDE or similar software from the "Komodo IDE Project Template" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to KPZ, try ActiveState Komodo IDE or another comparable tool in the "Komodo IDE Project Template" category.
The KPZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KPZ converter.
