About KODAK files
The .kodak file is a proprietary raster image format associated with the obsolete Kodak Photo CD system. Introduced in 1992, this format digitized high-resolution 35mm photographs and stored them on compact discs. Opening these files today requires legacy software like Corel PaintShop Pro or IrfanView. The primary disadvantage of the .kodak format is its severe obsolescence. It is a closed, proprietary format that modern web browsers, smartphones, and default operating system image viewers cannot natively read. Furthermore, modern Adobe Photoshop versions have entirely dropped native support for Kodak's legacy formats. Because the file uses a specialized Image Pac structure to store multiple resolutions in a single container, extracting the highest quality image data is highly complex without the original decoding algorithms. Users must convert these files to standard formats like JPG for web sharing, PNG for lossless digital use, or TIFF for high-quality print archiving. Standard online converters frequently fail because they lack the specific libraries to parse this proprietary Kodak container. Even if the proprietary structure restricts complete conversion, our tool can identify the file format, inspect the internal metadata, and attempt to extract embedded standard images.
Convert.Guru analyzes your KODAK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert KODAK file to JPG, PDF, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, TIF, WEBP, ICO, CUR, PSD or PSB, you can use IrfanView or similar software from the "Raster Image Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The KODAK Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KODAK converter.
