The .kb2 file is a proprietary bare-metal server backup archive created by Kleo Bare Metal Backup, a disaster recovery tool originally developed by Carroll-Net. These files are used to completely clone a computer's hard drive, capturing the operating system, device drivers, installed applications, and all user data into a single container.
To create or restore a .kb2 file, administrators must use the Carroll-Net Server Recovery Kit (CnSRK). This software does not run inside Windows or macOS; instead, it boots independently from a LiveCD or USB drive to interact directly with the hardware.
This format presents significant disadvantages for users today. It is a highly proprietary, legacy format that locks your critical data inside the Kleo ecosystem. Because it clones entire systems, the files are typically massive - often reaching hundreds of gigabytes. Worse, you cannot simply double-click a .kb2 file in standard operating systems to browse its contents. Common unzipping tools will fail to open it because Kleo uses a custom, file-system-aware block mapping technique before applying its internal Gzip compression.
There is no way to "convert" a full disk clone into a simple document. The only logical conversion targets are standard raw disk images like ISO or IMG, or extracting the contents to a ZIP file. However, standard online converters fail to process the proprietary architecture of a Kleo backup.
